RE: Dogs and (human) medication

What a sad situation. I am so sorry to hear about your friend's loss. I am sure the dog sitter is beyond heartsick over it. :( You are right, this can & does happen to anyone. I dropped one of my medications a few years ago and before I knew it my beloved Gabby had eaten it. She did so before I could give my usual command of "drop it". I induced vomit with peroxide since it was early (5:30 ish) in the morning and our vet wasn't available yet. I am so glad I did! Come to find out later what I had dropped would have been life threatening to my sweet Gabby. As much as I hated to see her puke I was certainly glad I knew what to do! Good post & warning Judy.

RE: My grandchild is.......

What a sweetie pie! I know you adore him and are looking forward to your new arrival, too. We don't have any grandchildren but two cuties that belong to my niece are as close to us as grandchildren. The girl is 6 and her brother is 5, only 15 months apart so they sometimes act like twins. They usually pick up after themselves pretty well but they can certainly cause chaos! Ain't it great? :B :B :B :B :B :B :B

RE: Are You A Licker Or A Chucker?

I'm a licker. Why waste the little extra taste. I also scrape off the foil top on sour cream and any other type of item that comes with the freshness seal on the container. LOL I thought I was the only one who did that!! :W :)

RE: They're smarter than you think!

What a sweet story! :) I am so glad they decided to keep that special boy. I hope they have many happy years together. I can imagine her mom is smiling down upon them and what a great way to have a living memory of her. I should know, we now have my mom's dog.......I guess that is why my eyes are clouding up reading your post. Very touching.

RE: Travel with a hyper dog ??

Here are a couple of links about Rescue Remedy: RR @ Pet Education.com RR @ Natural Canine.com You can buy it either online or at some of the larger pet supply stores. I've heard many wonderful reports on how well it works. It is certainly worth a try! Good luck!

RE: I dodged the bullet...hospital

Hi neighbor! Sure glad you are feeling better and missed out on a hospital stay. That's not the place to get any rest, as you know. Please take care of yourself, remember that in stressful times our immune systems do wacky things.

RE: Liver Enzyemes Question

........... Would it be unreasonable to ask the clinic to have the orginal vet look at her results and give us his opinion. I have a great deal of faith in him and know nothing about the current vet that did the exam. Thanks for any suggestions. Since I do not know much about the enzyme levels I won't address that part of your post but I will say that of course you can request the other vet look at the results and consult. I bet they would be happy to do that for you. Perhaps you will want to also take the results to another clinic (maybe even a holistic vet practice) and get another opinion as well. As far as I am concerned when it comes to my health or the health of a loved one (pets included) I am always open to getting a second opinion. Yes, there will be costs involved but perhaps you will surprised this time around and get some encouraging news, I certainly hope so! A nine year old is not that old by current standards, I'm sure you hope to enjoy many more years with your pet. The good news is that the liver is a unique organ and can rejuvenate itself to a certain extent. I understand there are certain herbs that might be of benefit, a friend of mine has Hep-C and has benefited from a number of more natural remedies. A holistic vet could help you with those options if your current vet isn't well versed in that sort of therapy. Best of luck! Please let us know how your dog is doing and what you find out.

RE: Campground Pet Policies

From a campground / rv park owner: Leash law is, in my option, just as important as picking up after your pet. Leash protects you as the owner as well as the owner of the campground in case of any incident with your pet. Picking up after the pet is just the sanitary thing to do. We have asked customers to leave who do not pick up after their pet or do not put their pet on a leash. We do know of a park owner who lost his park because of a dog biting incident. The dog was NOT on a leash. And the park owner did not enforce his leash law. As far as the breeds are concerned: many insurance companies ban certain breeds as part of their campground policy. Many park owners realize it is not the breed, but the owner who may actually be the problem. We have "solved" this problem by putting the "banned breeds" in selected back in sites where there is less likelihood of someone walking by to have a problem. Not the best solution, but why should we ban good customers who have well behaved "banned breeds"? Just so you know. Thanks for listening. Just a little nitpicky footnote to the above post: Leash laws are enforced by the local government. Campground owners/managers can enforce their rules but cannot make "laws". If one looks upon their rules as law then perhaps that could be the start of a problem.

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Wow Howard.....From your description of your neighbor lady I would say she has some real psychological problems that a bright light certainly won't "cure". Um, judging by the "problems" your neighbor's wife seems to have.... "paranoid schizophrenia" comes to mind...if you *really* want to create trouble..paint some staring eyes on that fence....LOL!!!!! Deb Oh Deb!! http://bestsmileys.com/paranoid/1.gif That is just so WRONG but I have to admit also pretty darned funny. Shame on me for laughing..... LOL

RE: CO Dog Leash Laws - My Reply

:h Guess I missed your post. I now see your post was over in the campground section, guess that's why I missed it. Sorry you were made to feel you were doing something wrong when you weren't. Blantant rule breaking is a completely different thing than having permission for a bit of freedom. I think most of us around here are very responsible pet owners but unfortunately it doesn't stop some people from thinking they need to jump on any chance for a putdown. Just keep in mind those people must live in a sad world, of their own making, of course.

RE: Synovi G3

Thanks y'all, I appreciate your input. I've had our dogs on the Innova Super Senior formula and human grade Glucosamine for almost a year now. As well as Fish Oil added to their food every morning for the last few years. While that helped both of them it is now time to give them a more supportive regime of supplements. The price isn't really an issue as long as I see improvements. Sher of course I remember Sofie, she was your heart dog. Thanks for sharing about her use of supplements. I think you're right having her on them helped her recovery process from the ACL. Mark... I'm sorry, I understand all too well what you are saying about Duncan. It is so hard to see them struggle, isn't it? Starfire, I'll have a look at the link you provided. One of my Lhasas, Loppy, is a VERY finicky eater so I am concerned about how well he will take any sort of supplement. I was concerned he wouldn't eat his food with the powder mixed in (Synovi makes a powder form as well). Thus far, he eats the chews very well. One of the many reasons I enjoy this part of the forum so much, is sharing this kind of information. Thanks again! :) Anyone else have experience with these kind of supplements?
